What is hot?

It is a sports drama and it is meant for all cricket lovers. Rajkummar Rao is said to be one of the most versatile actors in Bollywood. He is the one who never disappoints. Even in Mr and Mrs Mahi, he manages to pull off the character well. Mahendra is a sweet character but has many undertones. He is desperate, wants to be a star by any means. Even if it means pushing his wife to be a cricketer so that he gets the fame of being her coach. He is seeking validation but he faces failure at every step. Rajkummar Rao is able to emote all the emotions well. Janhvi Kapoor has done a decent job. The actress has put in efforts to learn cricket and it shows at various junctures. From her form to her spirit, Janhvi is convincing when on field. It is a romantic drama so of course there would be songs. Tunes of Roya Jab Tu would touch your hearts. The supporting cast of Kumud Mishra and Rajesh Sharma have done their jobs well. We wish there were more scenes featuring Zarina Wahab as she is so beautiful and natural on-screen. Coming down to direction, Sharan Sharma has tried hard to knock onto the emotions attached to cricket.

What is not?

The movie lacks depth. We have seen many sports dramas especially around cricket that make you go scream ‘India, India’ or at least cheer for the player. But Mr and Mrs Mahi does not manage to evoke that feel. It is definitely a feel good film but may not leave a lasting impression on you. The first half of the film appears slow. The second half picks up pace but the storyline could have been made more interesting and engaging.

Verdict:

Mr and Mrs Mahi is a feel-good film that speaks more of emotions than the sports. Thus, BollywoodLife would like to give it 3 stars for the efforts made.
