Anurag Kashyap on rift with Abhay Deol; says

Bollywood filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is in the news for various reasons. He is the mastermind behind creating a classic cult film Dev D which has a massive fan following. The film starred Abhay Deol in the main role. Abhay criticized it for glorifying toxic male behaviour, but Anurag did not agree with him. This led to a major rift between Abhay and Anurag. In a recent interview, Anurag said that there is more to their fight than Abhay’s side of the story, but he will reveal things as the actor will not look nice. Speaking to Janice Sequeira, Anurag said that he is not bad at maintaining relationships. He even said that he had not met Abhay post the shooting of Dev D as he did not even come for the promotions. Abhay Deol was dissatisfied with Anurag Kashyap’s direction

In the interview, Anurag Kashyap said that if Abhay wants to call him toxic, then it is his side of the story and he is fine with it. He said that the truth can’t be spoken as if he will speak the truth, he won’t be able to show his face. Anurag further added saying that there is too much truth in there that Abhay will also not have the courage to talk about and he will not talk about it because it will make him look like shit. Anurag directed Dev D in 2009, which was a film about a tragic and possessive lover set in Punjab and Delhi. Abhay played the role of a flawed and chauvinistic man and received immense praise for his exceptional performance. The film was a hit and the masses loved it.

Abhay told a media portal in 2023 that he got engrossed in Dev character and for a year did what the character used to do. He even said that he drank like a fool every day and had memory lapses because of drinking. Abhay even said that his whole life is one big blur. He even said that his version of Dev D was quite different from Anurag’s version and he wanted the female characters to have more agency. But, Anurag defended his version of the film and said that his stories are based on real life.
